Smelting: ESR electric slag remelting → ingot casting → forging (purer than ordinary 2316).
Heating: Preheat to 650-750 ℃ → Heat up to 1100-1150 ℃, and keep warm (1.5-2min/mm).
Forging: initial forging at 1050~1100 ℃, final forging at * * ≥ 850 ℃; Adopting upsetting and elongation * *, forging ratio ≥ 3, refining grain size and improving carbide distribution.
Cooling: After forging, air cooling+stress relief annealing (750~800 ℃, holding for 1~3h, furnace cooling) is used to eliminate internal stress and stabilize the structure.
Pre hardening and tempering: oil quenching at 850~880 ℃ → tempering at 600~650 ℃, stable to HRC 32 ± 2.
Flaw detection: GB/T 6402, Grade I qualified, without cracks, inclusions, or shrinkage cavities.
Hardness uniformity: with a cross-sectional difference of ≤ HRC 2, ensuring consistency between processing and polishing.
Dimensional accuracy: Thickness tolerance ± 0.5~1.0mm, flatness ≤ 0.5mm/m.
Thickness: 100-450mm
Width: 160-1300mm
Transparent mold: PC/PMMA lenses, light guide plates, cosmetic packaging.
Corrosive plastics: PVC pipe fittings, flame-retardant ABS, medical grade injection molds.
High gloss appearance parts: home appliance shells, car interiors, food container molds.
What is forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate?
Forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate is a high-chromium martensitic stainless mold steel corresponding to DIN 1.2316 / X38CrMo16. The forging process gives it a denser and more uniform structure than rolled plate, improving toughness, polishability and suitability for large plastic injection molds.
What are the equivalent grades of 2316R mold steel?
2316R usually corresponds to DIN 1.2316 / X38CrMo16, GB 3Cr17Mo, JIS SUS420J2 modified, and AISI 420 MOD. When sourcing forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate, always confirm the chemical composition, hardness and forged or ESR condition instead of relying only on the grade name.
Is forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate pre-hardened and corrosion-resistant?
Yes. Forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate is typically supplied pre-hardened to about 30–34 HRC and contains around 16% chromium, giving it good corrosion resistance against moisture, mild acids and corrosive plastic residues. This makes it more durable than standard P20 steel in PVC or corrosive plastic molds.
Why use forged 2316R steel for mirror polishing plastic molds?
Forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate has low segregation and fewer inclusions, so it can achieve excellent mirror polishing results, often reaching SPI A1 or A2 finish. It is ideal for transparent parts, optical components, cosmetic packaging and high-gloss injection molds.
What applications use forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate?
Forged 2316R plastic mold steel plate is widely used for large plastic injection molds, automotive interior and exterior parts, appliance housings, medical devices, cosmetic packaging, and transparent or corrosive plastic molds. Its combination of corrosion resistance, polishability and toughness supports long production runs.
