Eternal
High purity: ultra-low S and P, low impurities, polishing can reach Ra ≤ 0.01 μ m (optical mirror surface).
Pre hardened state easy to machine: good machinability at around 40 HRC, suitable for high-speed milling EDM, No need for secondary heat treatment, short cycle and minimal deformation.
Corrosion resistance and wear resistance: Ni and Cu enhance resistance to water vapor corrosion, suitable for wet/corrosive plastics (such as PVC); Wear resistance life is 20-30% higher than P20.
Dimensional stability: uniform organization, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and long-term use of precision molds without deformation.

Heating specifications
Preheating: 600-650 ℃, keep warm for 2-4 hours, prevent thermal cracking.
Final forging temperature: 850-900 ℃, to avoid low-temperature brittleness.
Maximum heating: 1180-1220 ℃, strictly controlled * * ≤ 1250 ℃ * * to prevent overheating.
Forging ratio
The total forging ratio is ≥ 4, and the module needs to be upsetting and elongated, compacted internally to loosen and refine the grain size.
Cooling and pre-treatment
After forging, air cool to 500 ℃ and then furnace cool to room temperature to prevent cracking.
Pre hardening treatment: 850 ℃ normalizing+500 ℃ tempering, hardness 39-43 HRC, uniform structure.
Thickness: 100-450mm
Width: 160-1300mm

What is Forged P80R plastic mold steel plate?
Forged P80R plastic mold steel plate is a premium pre-hardened mold steel supplied in the 37–43 HRC range, produced through a multi-directional forging process that delivers a uniform, dense microstructure with minimal anisotropy. It is an age-hardening steel based on the Ni-Cu-Al ternary alloy system, with controlled additions of Mo for improved hardenability. The multi-directional forging route — combining electric furnace melting, vacuum degassing, and ESR remelting — ensures low gas content, high purity, and consistent hardness even after deep machining. P80R is primarily used for high-precision plastic injection molds, including transparent component molds, high-gloss appearance molds, and high-quality etched-texture molds
Is P80R the same as NAK80 mold steel?
P80R is the Chinese GB designation for a steel that is directly equivalent to the Japanese NAK80 grade. The GB牌号 is 10Ni3MnCuAl, and its international equivalents include Daido NAK80 (Japan), GEST80 (Germany/Groditz), and HPM50 (Hitachi). Both P80R and NAK80 are age-hardening (precipitation-hardening) plastic mold steels with a delivery hardness of 37–43 HRC. The key difference is the forging route: P80R plates from qualified Chinese suppliers are produced via multi-directional forging (EF + LF + VD + ESR + forging), which reduces center porosity and improves structural uniformity compared to conventional hot-rolled NAK80 equivalents. For international buyers already familiar with NAK80 specifications, P80R/10Ni3MnCuAl is a functionally interchangeable material.
Why is P80R supplied in pre-hardened 37–43 HRC condition?
P80R is pre-hardened to 37–43 HRC at the mill through an age-hardening (precipitation-hardening) treatment, meaning the mold maker can machine it directly without additional quenching and tempering. This eliminates the dimensional distortion and cracking risks associated with post-machining heat treatment — a critical advantage for large, precision molds with tight tolerance requirements. At this hardness level, P80R still offers excellent cutting performance, good flexibility, and outstanding EDM machinability. The material's mirror-polishing capability can reach Ra ≤ 0.01 μm, making it suitable for optical-grade transparent parts and high-gloss cosmetic molds. If higher surface hardness is needed, nitriding (500–570°C) can achieve surface hardness of 1000–1100 HV without compromising the pre-hardened core
What are the key machining advantages of Forged P80R steel plate?
Forged P80R offers three core processing advantages: (1) excellent mirror polishability, achieving surface finishes down to Ra ≤ 0.05 μm for high-gloss transparent parts; (2) outstanding EDM performance with a high-quality surface finish that can replace etching texturing; and (3) uniform hardness from surface to center, ensuring consistent machinability across the plate thickness. These properties make it suitable for precision molds where both optical clarity and complex EDM geometry are required.
What applications is Forged P80R plastic mold steel best suited for?
Forged P80R is specified for high-end plastic injection molds, including: transparent lens and light-guide molds, cosmetic packaging molds, automotive interior and lighting part molds, and precision textured molds. It is also used in camera components, appliance housings, and electronic device enclosures where high surface quality and long mold life are critical.
