Quality Control & Inspection System at Eternal
To ensure every custom forging handles extreme high pressures, low-temperature environments, and long-term fatigue loads, Eternal implements a rigorous testing and quality assurance matrix. Our inspections cover four critical technical areas to guarantee compliance with global industry standards.
1. Visual & Dimensional Inspection
The baseline process to confirm that structural geometries and machining allowances strictly align with your engineering drawings.
Inspection of raw and as-forged surfaces to eliminate defects such as laps, cracks, folds, scale, or over-grinding.
Dimensional & Geometric Tolerance Measurement
Utilizing calipers, micrometers, and precision measuring tools to verify outer/inner diameters, length, wall thickness, and concentricity. This process guarantees that correct machining allowances are maintained for final CNC finishing.
2. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
We utilize advanced NDT methods to verify internal and surface structural integrity without altering the component. These reports are essential for high-risk applications in petrochemical, marine, and power generation sectors.
Focused on internal defect detection. We accurately locate potential internal cracks, porosity, shrinkage, or slag inclusions in heavy open-die forgings—typically certified to ASTM A388 or EN 10228-3.
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
Applied to detect surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic materials, including carbon steel and alloy steels (e.g., 42CrMo, 4340).
Used for locating surface-breaking defects in non-magnetic alloys, specifically our stainless steel (316L) and duplex stainless steel (F51, SAF 2507) product lines.
Test coupons are extracted from the same production heat and heat-treatment batch to verify exact mechanical profiles and microstructures.
Mechanical Property Testing
• Tensile Test: Verifies ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and reduction of area.
• Impact Test (Charpy V-Notch): Conducted at ambient or low temperatures (such as -40°C or -46°C) to evaluate material toughness and mitigate brittle fracture risks in cold-climate applications.
• Hardness Testing: Verifies Brinell (HBW) or Rockwell (HRC) values across the forging to confirm uniform heat treatment.
Metallographic Examination
• Grain Size Assessment: Verifies grain size refinement after heat treatment to ensure targeted structural properties.
• Microstructure & Cleanliness Inspection: Screens for detrimental intermetallic phases and non-metallic inclusions to guarantee total material cleanliness.
Chemical Composition Analysis
Positive Material Identification (PMI): Spectral analysis to verify that critical elements (C, Cr, Ni, Mo, etc.) comply with material specifications like ASTM A182.
4. Pressure & Corrosion Resistance Testing
Specialized evaluation for forgings destined for aggressive chemical environments or severe service fluid systems (such as high-pressure valve bodies and heavy flanges).
Hydrostatic / Pneumatic Testing
Pressure-testing of finish-machined components to verify zero leakage under specified working pressures.
Intergranular Corrosion Testing (IGC)
Performed on stainless and duplex grades in compliance with ASTM A262 (Practice A/E) to guarantee extended service life in corrosive environments.
