9Cr3Mo is a cost-effective, medium-alloy steel grade specifically designed for cold-rolling rolls. Thanks to its excellent hardenability, thermal fatigue stability and resistance to wear and spalling, it is widely used for work rolls in cold-rolling and levelling mills for thin sheets, strip steel and stainless steel.
Our 9Cr3Mo cold-rolling roll forgings are manufactured using vacuum-refined steel ingots, multi-stage upsetting and drawing processes, and precise tempering combined with cryogenic stabilisation treatment. They feature a dense internal microstructure, extremely low impurity levels and a uniform hardness gradient, effectively addressing issues commonly associated with standard rolls such as flaking, material loss, cracking and premature failure. We support delivery in all stages, from billets through rough machining to finished products.
We support delivery in all stages, from billets through rough machining to finished products. We can customise heavy-duty non-standard rolled roller forgings to your drawings, ensuring long-term, stable operation across all types of cold rolling production lines.

• High hardenability: Good hardening penetration in large-section forgings, with a uniform hardness gradient across the roll body and neck, minimising deformation and edge collapse during the rolling process
• High resistance to thermal fatigue: Withstands the repeated start-stop cycles of cold rolling and alternating hot and cold stresses, effectively suppressing the formation of network cracks and thermal cracks
• Wear resistance and resistance to spalling: Thanks to a well-balanced alloy composition, the roll surface exhibits excellent wear resistance; when rolling hard-state stainless steel and high-strength strip steel, the rolls are less prone to spalling and gouging
• Good toughness and stability: Overcomes the issues of high-hardness rolls being brittle and prone to chipping, striking a balance between hardness and toughness, and is suitable for long-term continuous mass production
All processes for our cold mill rolls — including forging, heat treatment, surface induction hardening, and machining — are performed in-house at our factory
Repeated upsetting and drawing processes break down coarse grains through repeated forging, eliminating internal porosity and shrinkage cavities, resulting in a uniform and dense microstructure.
Through spheroidising annealing and tempering, the hardness is uniform and stable, enhancing the roll’s overall wear resistance and fatigue resistance.
Through surface induction hardening, our rolls achieve a hardness of 85–100 HSD with a hardened case depth of 10–50 mm.
We strictly control every stage of the process to ensure that dimensional and geometric tolerances are met with absolute precision. We offer direct delivery of finished products,
• Custom Dimensions: Custom-made roll forgings with specific diameters, lengths, roll neck structures, and special-shaped structures based on drawings
• Custom Processes: Available in various states, including blanks, rough-machined parts, quenched and tempered semi-finished products, and precision-machined finished products
• Operating Condition Customization: Fine-tuning of heat treatment processes for different operating conditions, such as stainless steel hard rolling, thin-sheet finish rolling, and continuous mass production
• Supporting Machining: A full range of finishing services, including keyway cutting, drilling, chamfering, roll surface precision grinding, and dynamic balancing
• Sample Services: Support for small-batch sample orders; mass production begins after successful trial runs, reducing procurement risks
From ultrasonic testing of forged blanks to dynamic balancing inspections of finished products, we implement end-to-end digital quality tracking to ensure that the performance data for every roll is traceable, keeping your production line running with the assurance of “zero defects.”
Spectral composition testing of raw materials to ensure material quality from the source
Post-forging ultrasonic (UT) internal flaw detection and magnetic particle (MT) surface flaw detection to eliminate internal defects and surface cracks

How do you choose between 9Cr3Mo and 9Cr2Mo rollers?
9Cr2Mo is suitable for general carbon steel and low-load rolling conditions; it is the cost-effective standard option. 9Cr3Mo has a higher chromium-molybdenum content, offering superior hardenability, heat fatigue resistance, and spalling resistance. It is suitable for stainless steel, high-strength strip steel, and high-load continuous rolling, providing a longer service life and fewer production downtime incidents.
Can we purchase only the blanks and perform heat treatment and machining in-house?
Yes, we support this. We can deliver either raw blanks or rough-turned blanks; heat treatment and precision machining are not mandatory. We fully tailor our solutions to meet the needs of your existing production lines.
What is the lead time for sample orders? Do you support custom sample dimensions?
Standard test specimens can be delivered within 10–15 days. We support custom small-sized forged test specimens based on customer testing requirements and provide support for machine trial verification.
How do you ensure that large rollers remain undamaged and free from deformation during transportation?
Large forgings are reinforced with solid wood, wrapped in shock-absorbing material, and securely fastened in place. They are transported directly via dedicated vehicles to avoid damage from transshipment. Upon arrival, customers can inspect the goods on-site, and we provide full after-sales coverage for any damage.
Can you provide complete certification documentation for factory acceptance inspection?
Yes. We provide material certificates, non-destructive testing reports, heat treatment parameter records, and factory certificates of conformity with the shipment. This comprehensive documentation can be used directly for customer warehousing, acceptance, and archiving.
