Forged 9Cr2MoV Cold Rolling Work Roll For Aluminum Foil Rolling Mill

The 9Cr2MoV forging cold rolling work roll is the core component of aluminum foil rolling mills (especially for coarse and medium rolling of aluminum foil), with high hardness, high wear resistance, dimensional stability, and high hardenability as its core advantages. It is designed specifically for the high-precision, high surface quality, and long-life rolling needs of aluminum foil.

Product Advantage

Ultimate surface quality
  • High hardness (HRC 60+) and extremely low surface roughness (Ra ≤ 0.2 μ m) ensure that the aluminum foil surface is scratch free and has no bright marks.

  • When rolling 0.006-0.05mm ultra-thin aluminum foil, the plate shape accuracy is high and the plate thickness tolerance is small.

Long service life
  • Extremely strong wear resistance, low roll consumption, high single roll rolling capacity, and reduced downtime for roll changing.

  • The V element significantly enhances heat fatigue resistance, resists alternating thermal stress during rolling, and is less prone to thermal cracking.

Stable dimensional accuracy
  • Good hardenability, uniform hardness of large diameter roller body.

  • Heat treatment deformation is small, long-term use ensures dimensional stability, and guarantees the accuracy of aluminum foil thickness.

C: Ensure high hardness and strength.

Cr, Mo: Improve hardenability, wear resistance, and tempering stability.

V: Refine grain size, form dispersed carbides, significantly enhance thermal cracking resistance and wear resistance.

2. Core Mechanical Properties
  • Hardness: HRC 60-65 (uniform roller body, difference ≤ HRC 2)

  • Tensile strength: ≥ 1200 MPa

  • Yield strength: ≥ 1000 MPa

  • Impact toughness: ≥ 50 J

  • High temperature hardness: ≥ HRC 50 at 450 ℃, heat-resistant fatigue resistance

3. Forging And Heat Treatment Processes
(1) Forging process (key control)
  • Smelting: EAF+LF+VD/ESR (electric slag remelting) to ensure high purity.

  • Forging temperature:

    Initial forging: 1100-1150 ℃

    Final forging: ≥ 850 ℃

Forging ratio: ≥ 4:1, fully crushing carbides, uniform structure.

After forging: slow cooling (pit cooling/sand cooling), timely annealing to relieve stress.

(2) Final heat treatment (strengthening and toughening)
  • Quenching: 880-900 ℃ oil cooling

  • Tempering: High temperature tempering at 520-560 ℃ (2-3 times)

  • Organization: Tempered martensite+uniform fine carbides+a small amount of residual austenite

4. Technical Specifications (Aluminum Foil Work Roll)
  • Common diameter: Φ 300mm - Φ 600mm

  • Roll body length: customized according to the width of the rolling mill (such as 1200mm, 1500mm, 1800mm)

  • Surface treatment: precision grinding, roughness Ra ≤ 0.2 μ m; Chromium plating (5-10 μ m) can further enhance wear resistance and anti stick aluminum performance.

  • Testing standard: UT ultrasonic testing (SEP 1921 C/C grade), with no internal defects.

5. Selection And Usage Points
  • Adaptability: Designed specifically for cold rolling conditions and not suitable for hot rolling.

  • Lubrication: Aluminum foil rolling requires the use of refined rolling oil for cooling and lubrication to prevent aluminum powder from sticking to the rollers.

  • Grinding: Regular micro grinding (5-10 μ m each time) to maintain the accuracy and smoothness of the roller surface.

Product Uses

1. Cold rolling of aluminum foil blanks (raw/rough)
  • Applicable products: Cold rolled billets of aluminum and aluminum alloys (1xxx, 3xxx, 8xxx series) with a thickness of 0.3mm to 1.5mm.

  • Characteristics of working conditions: high rolling pressure, high reduction rate, medium rolling speed, and extremely high requirements for the wear resistance, impact resistance, and strength of the rolling mill rolls.

  • 9Cr2MoV adaptability: HRC 60-65 high hardness, high compressive strength (≥ 1200MPa), can withstand high rolling force, resist severe wear, low roller wear, and long service life.

2. Aluminum foil roughing mill/intermediate rolling mill work roll (mainstream scenario)

Applicable products: Coarse and medium rolling processes for double zero foil (0.006-0.03mm) and single zero foil (0.03-0.1mm).

Characteristics of working conditions: high-speed rolling (800-1500m/min), large reduction, high cyclic stress, and frictional heat generation.

9Cr2MoV adaptability:

  • High wear resistance+heat fatigue resistance: Stable hardness at high temperatures (about 400-500 ℃), less prone to thermal fatigue cracking, and resistant to aluminum adhesion.

  • Uniform organization: After forging and heat treatment, the carbides are fine and uniform, with high surface smoothness (Ra ≤ 0.8 μ m), less prone to roll marks, and ensuring the surface quality of the aluminum foil.

  • Good toughness: resistant to peeling and chipping, suitable for high-speed, heavy-duty, and continuous rolling.

3. High precision rolling of aluminum and aluminum alloy strips
  • Applicable products: decorative aluminum foil, food packaging foil, air conditioning foil, cable foil, automotive aluminum foil, etc.

  • Working condition characteristics: high thickness accuracy (± 0.1~1 μ m), extremely strict surface quality (no scratches, no bright marks, no roller marks).

  • 9Cr2MoV adaptability: good dimensional stability, uniform hardness, deep quenching layer (6-15mm), strong long-term rolling accuracy retention.

4. Rolling of specific alloy aluminum foil (auxiliary scenario)
  • Applicable alloys: hard/high alloy aluminum foils such as 3003, 3004, 8011, 8079, etc.

  • Working condition characteristics: high alloy hardness, high deformation resistance, easy to stick to rollers, and easy to scratch.

  • 9Cr2MoV compatibility: high hardness, low friction, anti adhesion, combined with surface chrome plating/laser texturing, can effectively suppress aluminum adhesion and improve surface quality.
