Forged 9Cr2Mo Cold Rolling Back-Up Roll For Copper Foil Rolling Mill

The forging 9Cr2Mo cold rolling support roll is the core heavy-duty component of the copper foil rolling mill, designed specifically for high-precision and high-pressure copper foil cold rolling conditions. It has the core advantages of high hardness, high wear resistance, high hardenability, and excellent fatigue resistance, which are the key to ensuring the quality of copper foil plate shape and rolling stability.

Product Advantage

1. High hardness and excellent wear resistance
  • After forging and heat treatment, the surface hardness can reach HRC 60-65, which can withstand severe friction under high pressure and high-speed rolling for a long time.

  • High carbon (C) alloy with chromium (Cr) and molybdenum (Mo) to form uniform and fine carbides, with strong anti-wear ability, significantly reducing roll wear and extending service life.

  • Adapt to the low wear and long life requirements of copper foil (especially ultra-thin copper foil) during rolling, reducing the frequency of downtime and roll replacement.

2. Good hardenability and uniform hardness
  • Chromium and molybdenum elements greatly enhance hardenability, and the large diameter support roller (Φ 400-600mm) has a uniform hardness gradient from the surface to the core.

  • The cross-sectional hardness difference is ≤ HRC 2, there are no local soft spots, the support pressure distribution is stable, and the accuracy and thickness uniformity of the copper foil plate are guaranteed.

3. High strength and high fatigue resistance
  • Tensile strength ≥ 1050MPa, yield strength ≥ 880MPa, capable of withstanding high line pressure (several hundred tons) of copper foil rolling mill.

  • The forging process results in a dense structure, refined grain size, high bending fatigue limit, and strong resistance to contact fatigue, peeling, and crack propagation.

  • Under long-term alternating loads, it is not easy to produce fatigue peeling or falling blocks, ensuring continuous and stable production.

4. High dimensional accuracy and thermal stability
  • Forging+precision heat treatment, excellent dimensional stability, deformation rate ≤ 0.003mm.

  • Molybdenum (Mo) enhances its ability to resist tempering softening, and its hardness and size remain stable under rolling temperature rise, without warping or deformation.

  • Ensure the accuracy of the roller profile, which is conducive to the shape control and surface quality of ultra-thin and wide copper foils.

5. High comprehensive cost-effectiveness
  • Compared to high chromium (Cr5) and semi high speed steel, 9Cr2Mo has lower cost and better processability.

  • The forged state has a more uniform structure, fewer internal defects, and higher reliability compared to cast steel support rollers.

2. Core Manufacturing Process (Forging+Heat Treatment)
(1) Forging process
  • Smelting: Electric slag remelting (ESR) is used to control oxygen content<15ppm and inclusion grade ≤ 1.5.

Forging ratio: ≥ 4:1, ensuring carbide fragmentation and dense and uniform structure.

  • Temperature control:

    Initial forging: 1150~1200 ° C

    Final forging: ≥ 850 ° C (to avoid cracking during low-temperature forging)

Purpose: To eliminate looseness, refine grain size, and improve carbide distribution.

(2) Heat treatment process (specialized for support rollers)

The support roller needs to balance high surface hardness and core strength and toughness, using integral quenching+high temperature tempering:

  • Spheroidal annealing: insulation at 790-810 ° C, isothermal at 650-670 ° C, softens the structure and facilitates machining.

  • Quenching: Oil quenching at 880-900 ° C to obtain high hardness martensite.

  • Tempering: High temperature tempering at 520-550 ° C for 2-3 times to stabilize the structure and relieve stress.

3. Key Performance Indicators (Copper Foil Rolling Mill Support Roll)
  • Roll body hardness: HRC 58~62

  • Hardened layer depth: ≥ 15~20mm

  • Tensile strength: ≥ 1050 MPa

  • Bending fatigue limit: ≥ 850 MPa

  • Surface roughness: Ra ≤ 0.4 μ m

  • Roll neck hardness: HS 30~55 (≈ HRC 30~40)

Product Uses

1. Precision rolling of ultra-thin copper foil for lithium batteries/electronics (most importantly)
  • Products: 6-12 μ m lithium copper foil, 18-35 μ m electrolytic copper foil, high-frequency circuit/RF copper foil.

  • Working conditions: high rolling force (hundreds to thousands of tons), high-speed rolling (300~800m/min), high pressure reduction rate, micrometer level thickness tolerance.

  • Function: Support small diameter work rolls, suppress bending deformation, ensure uniform thickness of copper foil in the transverse direction, and keep the plate shape straight (without waves or warping).

2. High precision copper plate/copper strip cold roughing/finishing rolling
  • Product: 0.05-2mm high-precision copper and copper alloy strip (such as purple copper, brass, white copper).

  • Operating conditions: Heavy load, continuous rolling, long-term service.

  • Function: Provide high rigidity support, stabilize roll gaps, ensure strip size accuracy, smooth surface, and no scratches.

3. Copper foil/copper strip straightening, leveling, and cutting processes

  • Scenario: Support/guide rollers for straightening machines, leveling machines, and longitudinal cutting units.

  • Function: Wear resistant, fatigue resistant, high-precision, ensuring the flatness, surface quality, and winding neatness of the finished product.
