Jiangyin Eternal Heavy Industry Co.,Ltd is a professional open die forging manufacturer specializing in high-performance alloy steel components. Our 1.2714 forging service delivers custom sleeves, bushings, and die blocks engineered for extreme hot-work conditions. With full in-house forging service capabilities—from forging to heat treatment and NDT—we supply critical components to the heavy forging, automotive, and tooling industries.
1.2714 is a premium nickel-chromium-molybdenum-vanadium hot-work tool steel, renowned for its exceptional toughness, deep hardenability, and resistance to thermal fatigue.
Standard | Grade Designation |
W.Nr. | 1.2714 |
DIN | 56NiCrMoV7 / 55NiCrMoV7 |
EN | 55NiCrMoV7 |
AISI/SAE | L6 (DB6) |
JIS | SKT4 |
GB | 5CrNiMoV |
Compliance with ASTM A681, DIN 17350, and ISO 4957 standards is guaranteed, with full MTC (EN 10204-3.1/3.2) traceability.
The alloying strategy of 1.2714 ensures high hardenability and strength at elevated temperatures.
Element | C | Si | Mn | Cr | Mo | Ni | V | P (max) | S (max) |
Content (%) | 0.50-0.60 | 0.10-0.40 | 0.60-0.95 | 1.00-1.20 | 0.45-0.55 | 1.50-1.80 | 0.07-0.12 | ≤ 0.030 | ≤ 0.030 |
Nickel (Ni) enhances toughness and through-hardening ability in large sections.
Chromium & Molybdenum provide wear resistance and high-temperature strength.
Vanadium refines grain structure, improving resistance to thermal shock.
Our open die forging and closed die forging processes are optimized for 1.2714 billets to ensure a refined microstructure and superior mechanical properties.
Preheating: Material is slowly preheated to 700°C to prevent thermal shock.
Hot Forming Temperature: 1050°C – 850°C.
Critical Parameters: Forging must not continue below 800°C. Post-forging cooling must be controlled (furnace cooling or in vermiculite) to avoid cracking.
Microstructure: The forging process breaks down coarse carbides, aligns the grain flow, and enhances impact resistance—critical for sleeves under cyclic loading.
We offer forging service for weights ranging from 30 kg up to 30,000 kg per piece.
Proper heat treatment is vital to unlock the full potential of 1.2714. We strictly control these cycles to meet specific hardness requirements.
Temperature: 650 – 700°C.
Cooling: Slow furnace cooling.
Result: Maximum hardness ≤ 248 HB for optimal machinability.
Method | Temperature | Quench Medium | Resulting Hardness |
Oil Quench | 830 – 870°C | Oil | ~58 HRC |
Air Quench | 830 – 900°C | Air/Vacuum | ~56 HRC |
Procedure: Preheat in stages (350-450°C and 650-750°C) to minimize distortion, then austenitize at 850-870°C.
Cycle: Double tempering is mandatory immediately after quenching to transform retained austenite and relieve stress.
Temperature Range: 550°C – 630°C (to achieve working hardness).
Working Hardness: Typically 36 – 52 HRC depending on section size.
We certify our forgings to ASTM A681 (Standard Specification for Tool Steels Alloy). The following mechanical properties are typical for quenched and tempered 1.2714:
Section Size / Cavity Depth | Hardness (HRC) | Tensile Strength (N/mm²) |
20 mm | 39 – 43 | 1200 – 1350 |
50 mm | 36 – 42 | 1100 – 1320 |
100 mm | 32 – 38 | 980 – 1170 |
Physical Properties:
Density: 7.84 g/cm³
Elastic Modulus: 215 x 10³ N/mm²
Our 1.2714 forged sleeves are widely used in high-stress, high-temperature environments.
Heavy Forging Industry: Bushing sleeves for forging hammers and mechanical presses; die holders and bolsters.
Hot Extrusion: Sleeves and piercer tips used in the production of seamless pipes and tubes.
Plastics Industry: Mold sleeves and housings for large-scale injection molding tools (thermoplastic processing).
General Machinery: Support sleeves, piston rods, and high-temperature shearing blades.
Q1: What is the difference between 1.2714 and standard 1.2713?
A: 1.2714 is an upgraded version of 1.2713, containing higher Chromium (Cr) and Molybdenum (Mo). This allows for better hot strength and secondary hardening effects, making it more suitable for heavy-duty die blocks and sleeves requiring high wear resistance at elevated temperatures.
Q2: Can you supply 1.2714 sleeves in the "pre-hardened" condition?
A: Yes. We offer our forging service with delivery in the quenched and tempered (pre-hardened) condition to eliminate the end-user's heat treatment risks, reducing lead times and ensuring consistent performance.
Q3: Do you perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)?
A: Absolutely. We comply with ASTM E45 for clean steel inclusions (Sulfide ≤ 0.5, Oxides ≤ 1.0). Forgings are inspected via Ultrasonic Testing (UT) according to EN 10228-3 or SEP 1921 standards.
Q4: What is the maximum size of a 1.2714 sleeve you can forge?
A: Using our open die forging presses, we can produce sleeves and rings with an outer diameter up to 5 meters and weights up to 30 tons.
Q5: How does the impact toughness of 1.2714 compare to other hot-work steels?
A: 1.2714 (56NiCrMoV7) exhibits superior low-temperature and high-temperature impact toughness compared to standard chromium hot-work steels (like 1.2344), making it the preferred choice for tools subjected to severe impact loads, such as forging sleeves.
