S41000 (UNS S41000) is a martensitic stainless steel made according to ASTM standards. It contains 12% chromium and is a basic type of martensitic stainless steel. This product is produced and quality-controlled in strict accordance with ASTM A1021/A1021M-20(2025) "Standard Specification for High-Temperature Martensitic Stainless Steel Forgings and Forging Stock".
S41000 forged plates, after quenching and tempering, have good strength and toughness. They also have good corrosion resistance in weak corrosive media and good machinability. This material is magnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions.

Q1: What is the relationship between S41000, SUS410, and 1Cr13?
A: S41000 is the UNS number for this material. It corresponds to SUS410 in JIS (Japan), 1Cr13/12Cr13 in GB (China), and 1.4006/X12Cr13 in DIN (Germany). They are the same material under different standard systems.
Q2: Is S41000 magnetic?
A: Yes. S41000 is magnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions.
Q3: How is the corrosion resistance of S41000?
A: S41000 has good corrosion resistance against atmosphere, fresh water, food acids, neutral and alkaline salts, weak acids, and weak alkalis. The best corrosion resistance is achieved by hardening and polishing. However, compared to nickel‑containing austenitic stainless steels, its corrosion resistance is somewhat limited.
Q4: How is the machinability of S41000?
A: It has good machinability, rated at about 54% of 1212 carbon steel. In the annealed state, it has good plasticity and can be bent, stretched, cut, and processed by common methods. After heat treatment, its hardness increases, making it more difficult to machine.
Q5: Can S41000 be welded?
A: Yes, it can be welded using all commercial welding processes (except forge welding). Preheating is recommended for large sections because it hardens on air cooling. After welding, annealing is advised to get the best toughness and ductility.
Q6: Which Grade in ASTM A1021 corresponds to S41000?
A: In ASTM A1021, Grade A is S41005 (similar to 403/410SS). S41000 itself is the basic grade of the 410 series, and its chemical composition is close to Grade A (S41005).
