105V (ISO numeric designation 1.2834) is a high-carbon, micro-alloyed cold-work tool steel made according to the standard ISO 4957:2018 Tool Steels. It falls under the group of unalloyed or low-alloy cold-work tool steels.
This material is suitable for cold-work applications where the surface working temperature is generally below 200°C. It offers a good combination of:
excellent hardenability,
good wear resistance,
and good toughness
Element | Content(wt%) | Description |
C | 1.00 – 1.10 | Ensure high hardness and wear resistance after quenching |
Si | 0.10 – 0.30 | Decarburizing agent, enhances hardenability |
Mn | 0.10 – 0.40 | Improve hardenability to enhance strength and hardenability |
P | ≤ 0.030 | Harmful elements, strictly controlled |
S | ≤ 0.030 | Harmful elements, strictly controlled |
V | 0.10 – 0.20 | Refine the crystal grains to enhance the wear resistance and toughness |

Electric arc furnace (EAF) + LF refining + VD vacuum degassing. For high-end requirements, electroslag remelting (ESR) can be adopted to enhance purity.
The initial forging temperature is 1020℃, and the final forging temperature is 800℃.
Carburizing annealing (slow cooling at 750–800℃) results in a uniform spheroidized pearlite structure, improving the machinability of the material.
Our goal is to work closely with partners to help customers achieve greater success in multiple fields.
Inspection certificate 3.1 or 3.2 in accordance with ISO 10474 is available upon request.
Brinell hardness test per ISO 6506-1; Rockwell hardness test per ISO 6508-1.
Non-destructive testing (NDT) can be performed in accordance with ISO 17577 (acceptance class B1).
Hot-rolled bars meet surface class A per ISO 9443; plates comply with ISO 7788.

105V forgings are widely used in the following applications due to their good flame hardening properties, machinability, and wear resistance:
Automotive stamping dies: blanking dies, bending dies, drawing dies, trimming edges (especially for automotive body panel stamping dies)
Cutting tools: turning tools, planing tools, drills, taps, reamers, milling cutters, hand hacksaw blades
Cold-work dies: blanking dies, forming dies, cold extrusion dies, thread rolling dies
Wear-resistant tooling: wear-resistant fixtures, gauges, measuring tools
Impact tools: pneumatic hammer tools, piercing tools, pistons, valves
Market Overview
Market size: The Chinese cold-work tool steel market is expected to grow steadily in 2025. By 2032, the market size is projected to reach approximately USD 2,466–3,309 million, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 4.2%–5.4% from 2026 to 2032.
Global production: In 2025, global production of cold-work tool steel is estimated at about 654,000 tonnes, with an average selling price of approximately USD 3,500 per tonne.
Key demand drivers:
Automotive industry: The trend toward vehicle lightweighting and the increasing penetration of new energy vehicles (NEVs) are driving demand for high-service-life stamping dies.
Consumer electronics: Growing demand for precision stamped parts and thinner connectors for 3C products (computers, communications, and consumer electronics).
Home appliance manufacturing: Large-scale production of sheet metal stampings.
Fasteners / cold-headed parts: Continuous consumption of long-life dies in the standard parts industry.
